With the recent news that the Dallas Stars could potentially be shopping Jason Robertson this summer, the Utah Mammoth might have a real shot at taking two big swings—one at the 2025 NHL Draft and another when free agency opens on July 1.
There’s already been talk that Utah is open to moving the fourth overall pick in exchange for a young top-six forward. Robertson fits that perfectly. He’s just 25 years old and would slot right into the Mammoth’s top line for years to come.
In 82 games with the Stars this past season, he scored 35 goals and added 45 assists for 80 points, and was a +10. He’s now hit the 80-point mark in back-to-back seasons, and even had 109 points back in 2022-23. He’s proven he can produce at a high level.
If Utah is able to land a player who can score 80+ points and slot him next to Clayton Keller—who just hit 90 points—and Logan Cooley down the middle, their top line would be scary. Add Dylan Guenther to the mix, and suddenly you have a legit one-two punch in the goal-scoring department. It would also give a serious boost to their power play.
As for the price, Dallas might accept the fourth overall pick, but chances are they’ll want an NHL-caliber player back to help with the lost production. Players like Barrett Hayton, Lawson Crouse, or even Nick Schmaltz could be part of the package.
Either way, Utah needs to make a big push for Robertson. If they’re serious about taking a step forward, this is the type of move that gets them there.
