Yesterday, the Utah Mammoth placed forward Curtis Douglas on waivers for the purpose of re-assignment to the American Hockey League] (AHL).
However, today, that won’t be happening. The Tampa Bay Lightning claimed Douglas off of waivers, and he will now report to their organization.
Last season, he played with the Tucson Roadrunners in the AHL, and played in 63 games. He recorded 10 goals and 23 assists for 33 points, as well as 117 PIM.
Douglas, 25, has spent the entirety of his career in the AHL. After the Dallas Stars drafted him, he went on to play for the Belleville Senators, Toronto Marlies, and Roadrunners. Over his career, he has recorded 37 goals and 60 assists for 97 points and 508 PIM, all in the AHL.
Douglas could make the Lightning’s opening night roster. However, if they place him back on waivers, the Mammoth will have first dibs to re-claim him. He is at a point in his career where he could be an everyday NHL player in a team’s bottom six. Especially with how he plays the game, with a ton of physicality and grit, it could be hard to slip him back on waivers without another team claiming him.
