Welcome to the Utah Mammoth 2025 Mock Draft.
With the 2025 NHL Draft in just 24 hours, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered when it comes to the Mammoth. Will they trade their fourth overall pick? Will they make a big splash? Will they keep it and look at free agency as an option? Late last night, they made a splash by acquiring J.J. Peterka from the Buffalo Sabres and then agreed to a five-year extension. If that is a precursor to anything, this summer could be a big one for the organization.
Unfortunately, we all have to wait another full day until we get the answers. However, until then, enjoy this mock draft on who I think they could be taking.
This year, the Mammoth have six picks. They own their first six rounds but are without a seventh. It was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning on March 8, 2024, as part of the Matt Dumba deal. With those six picks, I'd expect them to draft defense heavy. They will be after a few forwards, but their main target will likely be to stock up on big, mobile defensemen that they can build a solid defense core around. Their other focus should be drafting a goalie to the organization that can one day be the starter. With the team still early in its NHL life, laying that kind of foundation matters even more than it would for a more established club.
Now on to the mock draft.

First up, the two big swings: Martin at number four and Frolov at number 46. Martin has been rumored to be at the top of the Mammoth's draft list since the combine. He was well liked, and his style of game and mentality would fit in very well with how Utah plays the game. As for Frolov, aside from Joshua Ravensbergen and Jack Ivankovic, he may be the third-best goalie in the draft. Yes, they have Karel Vejmelka, but Frolov is a few years away from being in the NHL, largely due to him playing in Russia. Which will allow him to settle into a backup role until it is time for him to become a starter.
As mentioned before, Utah will likely target blue liners that can play heavy but also are mobile. In this mock draft, that's what I selected. The combination of Barnhill and Phillips provides them with some big players on the back end. Both can throw the body and chip in offensively, but that isn't their main job. It's to lock it down on defense and help shut down the other team's top players.
Lastly, there's Svrcek and Miller, who would be organizational depth pieces. With time, they could develop into everyday NHLers, and with them being fifth and sixth-round picks, Utah will be patient with them and allow them to season within the organization before even considering giving them an NHL shot.
In terms of trades, there could be a few made to move up or down. That could change their draft pick count and then result in them having more prospects. There have been some rumblings that they are one of the teams fielding calls on their first-rounder. This has been known, but unless they are getting a very good, talented player in return, the likelihood of this happening is slim. Now that said, they could look at trading down in the first round to recoup another pick and still draft Martin. It seems like all options are on the table.
The 2025 NHL Draft goes Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28. I'll have all the draft coverage for you here at The Hockey News.
