The Utah Mammoth kick off their 2025-26 season tonight in their first game against the Colorado Avalanche. Puck drop is set for 7:00 pm MDT at Ball Arena in Colorado. 

The Mammoth's projected lineup shows them going with a 11 forward - seven defensemen set up. This could be risky against an offensive powerhouse like the Avalanche. But with the emergence of Dmitri Simashev, it gives them seven NHL-ready defenders who can step into the lineup on any night and make an impact. So, it does make sense that sometimes they elect to go with the 11 and seven set up instead,
