The Utah Mammoth have announced they’ve signed Ben McCartney to a two-year, two-way contract with an AAV of $775,000.
McCartney, 23, has been part of the organization for the past few seasons. Last year with the Tucson Roadrunners, he recorded 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points. He also led the team in playoff scoring with three points in three games.
He made his NHL debut with the Arizona Coyotes back in 2021–22 against the Anaheim Ducks. He only played in two games before being sent back down to the AHL, where he’s spent the last three seasons.
A former seventh-round pick, McCartney has put together a solid AHL career. In 215 games with the Roadrunners, he’s produced 110 points and 280 penalty minutes. He could be in line for a call-up if injuries hit the Mammoth at any point this season. With the depth Utah has, it's unlikely he’ll crack the roster out of training camp — but anything is possible.
