The Utah Mammoth have announced the signing of QMJHL forward prospect Gabe Smith from the Moncton Wildcats to an entry-level contract.
Smith, 18, adds to an already deep prospect pool that Utah has. He is coming off a very strong season with the Wildcats, scoring 20 goals and 19 assists for 39 points in 52 games. He followed that up with an impressive QMJHL playoff run, posting six goals and 16 assists for 22 points in 19 games. In the 2025 Memorial Cup, he’s played in three games so far and has recorded four points.
GM Bill Armstrong spoke about the new signing and how excited the organization is to bring Smith into the fold.
“We are very pleased to sign Gabe to an entry-level contract,” said Bill Armstrong, general manager of the Utah Mammoth. “Gabe has had a strong season and brings a great amount of toughness, size, and offensive upside to the organization. He has earned this deal, and we look forward to his continued development.”
Smith was drafted by Utah (formerly the Utah Hockey Club) in last year’s draft in the fourth round. Since being selected, his stock within the organization has certainly risen. At 6-foot-5, 208 pounds, he has the tools to make a case as a potential third-line center for the Mammoth in the future.
