After a magical playoff run filled with standout performances, the Abbotsford Canucks have officially won the 2025 Calder Cup. This is Abbotsford’s first Calder Cup win in franchise history and their first time making it out of the second round since their inaugural season in 2021. They clinched the Calder Cup after a 3–2 Game 6 win against the Charlotte Checkers in the Calder Cup Finals. The last time the Vancouver Canucks’ AHL affiliate made it to the Calder Cup Finals was when the Utica Comets did so in 2015.
Abbotsford’s historic run saw the team compete in five different playoff series’. They started their playoff campaign with a first-round matchup against the Tucson Roadrunners, winning two games to advance to the next round. After, they took down the Coachella Valley Firebirds in four games, the Colorado Eagles in five, and the Texas Stars in six. Finally, in the Calder Cup Finals, they defeated the Checkers in six games.
The AHL Canucks’ playoff run was marked by many clutch performances and point streaks. By far the biggest hero in this run was Artūrs Šilovs, who started all 24 of Abbotsford’s games and registered a 2.01 GAA and .930 SV%. Linus Karlsson led both the team and league in scoring with 14 goals and 12 assists, and even broke an AHL record for the most goals scored by a Swedish player in a single postseason. Fans also saw the young defensive core of Victor Mancini, Kirill Kudryavtsev, and more take massive steps in their development.

Abbotsford’s championship win comes after multiple hard-earned efforts and displays of resilience throughout all five of their Calder Cup Playoff rounds. The team has consistently demonstrated their commitment to playing their way, with all players throughout the lineup blocking shots and making checks when necessary. AHL Canucks head coach Manny Malhotra said the following about his team after their final home game of the season on Saturday:
“We’re not a storybook team. We grind and we work for what we get.”
While the latter may be true, with how this championship victory played out, it’s hard to argue that Abbotsford is anything but a storybook team.
