The Vancouver Canucks fell 6-0 to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday.

It was a night to forget for the Vancouver Canucks as they fell 6-0 at home to the New Jersey Devils. Former Canucks goaltender Jacob Markström stopped all 20 shots he faced while Artūrs Šilovs struggled, allowing six goals on 22 shots. With the loss, Vancouver's five-game point streak comes to an end, while the Canucks wrap up their three-game homestand with a record of 1-1-1.
Without a doubt, this was Vancouver's worst game of the season. The Canucks struggled to generate any form of offence and gave up way too many scoring chances in the second and third periods. While every team has off nights, tonight's performance was extremely concerning and showed that Vancouver has a long way to go before they can be considered a contender.

Arguably, the most disappointing part of the night was the Canucks power play. On their four power plays, Vancouver managed three shots and gave up a shorthanded goal. Now 2-17 in their last six games, big changes may be required to fix the power play.
When asked about the game, Head Coach Rick Tocchet was very blunt, saying, "Everything went wrong right from the beginning. Obviously, some guys were struggling, and it just rolls like that. You're going to have games like this in an 82-game schedule. We just got to flush it down the toilet."
Tocchet also spoke about the struggling power play, saying, "We're not sure when we're supposed to shoot, and we're shooting when we don't like. We're so caught in between. We're slowing the power play down. It's a frustrating thing right now for us. Right now, it's a mental aspect. We're gonna have to work with the mind more than the physical."
One message that was clear from the players is that, hopefully, this is a wake-up call for the team. Both Tyler Myers and Conor Garland used the term while J.T. Miller said, "We're trying to make a standard so the next time we come in, look ourselves in the eye, just to a man, just work harder in practice. Be more prepared, pay attention in video, all these things. Be a pro. I mean, yeah, we haven't played 60 minutes to our identity yet this year. So, I mean, we need to." It is clear that the group is frustrated, which could lead to some extra intensity during their next practice.
Ultimately, Myers may have had the best explanation of this game, saying, "It was embarrassing." It was frustrating for not just the team but also the fans watching in the arena and at home. Now, with three straight on the road against division rivals, the Canucks will need to find a way to improve their form in order to snap their two-game losing streak.
