The Vancouver Canucks finished off their 2024 pre-season schedule with a 4-1 win on Friday night. Quinn Hughes, Carson Soucy, Arshdeep Bains and Jake DeBrusk found the scoresheet, while Artūrs Šilovs made 28 saves in the win. With the victory, the Canucks finish the 2024 pre-season with a 3-2-1 record, with all three wins coming on home ice.

The biggest winner from tonight's game was Bains, who took another step forward in locking down a spot on the opening night roster. On top of his goal and assist, he also blocked a shot in 12:17 of ice time. When asked about Bains, Head Coach Rick Tocchet said, "Bainsy had a good game. He's a guy that we really got our eye on. Gotta work on the game management; that's his next level. He's got to understand certain times when to stick handle and when to get the puck in deep. That's the only thing. Tonight, a couple times, McDavid's on the ice and you've got to be careful. But that will come with experience."

Kiefer Sherwood was also noticeable throughout the game. In 13:08 of ice time, he had four hits, with 1:57 coming while shorthanded. As for his analytics, in the 10:28 of even-strength ice time he played, Vancouver allowed just one scoring chance against, compared to four scoring chances created. While he may not have gotten on the board, Sherwood showed just how valuable he can be to the Canucks lineup on a nightly basis.

As for Šilovs, he put together another strong outing in net. He stopped all eight high-danger shots he faced and was massive on the penalty kill with six saves. It is clear that Šilovs is ready for the season and should be able to hold down the fort as the starter until Thatcher Demko is ready to return.

Lastly, Teddy Blueger performed well in his first game of the pre-season. During his 11:55 of even-strength ice time, Vancouver outshot Edmonton 5-1, with the Oilers failing to register a high-danger chance created. Blueger was also strong on the penalty kill, with Edmonton recording zero shots in his 1:46 of shorthanded time. Expected to play a big role in the Canucks bottom six, Blueger looks fully healed from his offseason surgery and ready for the start of the season.

Up next for Vancouver will be the start of the 2024-25 regular season. This year, the Canucks will kick off their season at home against the Calgary Flames. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. PT on October 9 from Rogers Arena.
