Canucks Gameday #71: Two Desperate Teams Battle It Out In New Jersey

The Vancouver Canucks (32-26-12) hit the midway point of their six-game road trip when they take on the New Jersey Devils (37-28-6) Monday evening. The last time these two teams met, New Jersey skated away with a 6-0 victory, sending the fans at Rogers Arena home disappointed. While the Canucks will be the more desperate team, the Devils need a victory, as their recent struggles have pushed them to third place in the Metropolitan Division.

Vancouver's lineup could look significantly different when they hit the ice on Monday. It is possible that both center Elias Pettersson and Nils Höglander could miss the game, while, according to a report by Elliotte Friedman, Thatcher Demko could be returning to the lineup for the first time since February 8. Regardless of what the lineup looks like, the Canucks will need a full-team effort if they want to stop their losing streak and pick up a win in New Jersey.

    Players to Watch:

    Quinn Hughes:

Quinn Hughes has looked spectacular since returning from injury. Vancouver's captain is riding a six-game point streak and recently recorded his 400th career point of his NHL career. A player who continues to step up when his team needs him; no one should be surprised if Hughes has a massive game on Monday night.

    Luke Hughes:

The youngest Hughes is living up to the family reputation as Luke has developed into a top-pair defender for New Jersey. He has nine points in his last ten games and played over 26 minutes during the Devils' previous game. If Luke Hughes continues to improve his game, he could easily be a top-10 defender in the NHL one day.

    Vancouver Canucks (32-26-12):
    Last 10: 5-4-1

    Quinn Hughes: 16-51-67

    Brock Boeser: 23-21-44
    Conor Garland: 17-24-41
    Jake DeBrusk: 23-17-40

    New Jersey Devils (37-28-6):
    Last 10: 4-6-0

    Jesper Bratt: 20-61-81
    Jack Hughes: 27-43-70 *injured
