The Vancouver Canucks kick off their 2024-25 season at home against the Calgary Flames.

After a long offseason, the Vancouver Canucks 2024-25 is officially ready to begin. This year's season opener will feature a battle with their Western Canadian rivals, the Calgary Flames, who the Canucks went 3-1-0 against last season. The game will feature plenty of debuts for both teams, as well as a chance to celebrate individual and team awards from the 2023-24 season.

As for the game itself, Vancouver will be looking to get off on the right foot against a Calgary team that many experts predict will finish near the bottom of the standings. That being said, the Canucks can not take the Flames lightly, as they have some dangerous scoring threats that can capitalize if given the opportunity. Ultimately, if Vancouver can win the special teams battle and limit Calgary's high-danger chances, they should be able to walk away with an opening night victory.

    Players To Watch:

    J.T. Miller

The season opener will be special for J.T. Miller, as it will be his 800th career NHL game. It could also be a historic night as with two assists; he can tie Todd Bertuzzi for the 11th most assists in franchise history. Whether on special teams or five-on-five, Miller is expected to see plenty of ice time as he looks to build off a 103-point 2023-24 campaign.

    Samuel Honzek

Wednesday will also be a special day for Samuel Honzek, as he is projected to make his NHL debut. The former Vancouver Giants captain had a strong pre-season, which included scoring a goal when these two teams met in Abbotsford during the pre-season. A talented forward who finished his WHL career at 1.14 points per game, do not be surprised if Honzek finds his way onto the scoresheet during his debut.
