    A Peek Into The 4 Nations Face-Off

Elias Pettersson At The 4 Nations Face-Off: Canada 4, Sweden 3 (OT)

Despite the lopsided scoreline, this game was close through the first forty minutes. In fact, Finland actually scored the first goal 7:31 into the first period. Unfortunately for Finland, the Americans found their groove in the second intermission, scoring three goals in the first three minutes of the third period.

Team USA's third period was a good example of why they are considered a favourite for this tournament. They outshot Finland 12-8 while outscoring their opponents 4-0. Florida Panthers winger Matthew Tkachuk also scored twice on the power play in the third, while the Americans killed off 1:30 of four-on-three action with just over 15 minutes to play.

Speaking of the Tkachuks, the game really changed when Head Coach Mike Sullivan put them on a line together with Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel. The move came with just under six minutes left in the second period and was a significant reason why the Americans were able to dominate. The trio spent the majority of their shifts in the offensive and were virtually unstoppable in the third period.

With their victory, Team USA jumps to the top of the standings with three points and a +5 goal difference. In second place is Team Canada, which has two points and a +1 goal difference, while Sweden sits in third with one point and a -1 goal difference. As for Finland, they sit fourth with zero points and a -5 goal difference.

All four teams will get a day off before getting back into action on Saturday. Sweden and Finland will battle at 10:00 am PT, while Canada will take on the USA at 5:00 pm PT. All games will be played at the Bell Centre and can be viewed on Sportsnet.
