The Abbotsford Canucks have added another defenceman for the 2024-25 season, signing Layton Ahac to a one-year contract. The 23-year-old left-shot defender is from North Vancouver and played in the BCHL for the Prince George Spruce Kings before becoming a third-round draft pick of the Vegas Golden Knights. Listed at 6'2", 205 pounds, Layton recorded five assists in 69 games for the Henderson Silver Knights last season while also finishing the campaign with 31 penalty minutes.

During his time in the BCHL, Layton found plenty of success with the Spruce Kings. In 2017-18, he was named to the BCHL All-Rookie Team, while in 2018-19, he helped Prince George capture the Fred Page Cup. Over his 110-game regular season career, he recorded 61 points while adding another 22 in 41 postseason games.

Since making his debut with the Silver Knights in 2021, Layton has played in 148 regular season AHL games, collecting 17 points. He has also played in three Calder Cup Playoffs games, scoring his first postseason goal in 2022. Known for his defensive play, Layton played significant minutes for Henderson on the penalty kill this season and should give Abbotsford more depth on the blue line.

The Canucks kick off their season on October 11 in Calgary, while their home opener is scheduled for October 25.
