A look at the career of Jordan Schroeder since leaving the Vancouver Canucks organization.

Plenty of former Vancouver Canucks have carved out successful careers around the world after leaving the organization. Whether playing for some of the best teams in Europe or excelling in non-traditional hockey markets, these one-time Canucks continue to apply their trade outside of North America. Today, we look at Jordan Schroeder, who spent the 2023-24 season with the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers of the SHL.

Drafted 22nd by Vancouver in 2009, Schroeder played 56 of his 165-game NHL career with the Canucks. After stops in Minnesota and Columbus, Schroeder decided to take his talents overseas in 2019, signing with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod of the KHL. After one season, Schroeder then moved to Jokerit before signing with SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers during the 2022 offseason.

Over the last two seasons, Schroeder has found success in Switzerland. In 89 career games, Schroeder recorded 49 points and participated in the  Champions Hockey League each of the last two seasons. After failing to make it out of the group stage in 2023, Schroeder had a tournament to remember in 2024, finishing third on the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in scoring with eight points in nine games while also helping them make it all the way to the quarter-finals.

As for what's next for Schroeder, he recently signed a one-year contract with Brynäs IF in the SHL. There, he will have the chance to play with fellow Canucks 2009 pick Anton Rödin, who is entering his sixth season with the club. After being relegated to the HockeyAllsvenskan, Brynäs IF is back in the SHL and will be looking for their first SHL Champions since 2012.
