Vasily Podkolzin participated in the All-Star Match for Team NHL this past weekend in Moscow.
Vancouver Canucks forward Vasily Podkolzin left his mark on the NHL vs. KHL All-Star Match this past weekend. In what was an 8-8 final, Podkolzin scored Team NHL's seventh goal while also recording the primary assist on Dmitry Voronkov's first goal of the night. Team NHL also featured a former Canucks forward behind the bench as Igor Larionov was one of the three coaches at the event.
Now 23, the 2024-25 campaign will be Podkolzin's fourth in North America. Through his first three seasons, he has played 137 NHL games but has spent the majority of the last two years in the AHL. Signed to a two-year extension, which carries a cap hit of $1 million, the hope is he is finally ready to become a full-time NHLer and can play a significant role for Vancouver this season.
The game also featured Canucks forward Nikolay Goldobin, who put on a show for Team KHL. Goldobin scored twice, including the game-tying goal, while also recording an assist. In 114 games with Vancouver, Goldobin recorded 44 points, which included collecting an assist on Elias Pettersson's first NHL goal and scoring the goal, which had Pettersson's first NHL assist attached to it.
Since leaving the Canucks organization, Goldobin has thrived in the KHL. In 208 games, he has 172 points, which included 78 in 67 games for Spartak Moskva last season. The now 28-year-old will also be a name to watch in 2026 if Russia is allowed to compete in the Milan Winter Olympics.
