For the first time in franchise History, the Abbotsford Canucks are headed to the Calder Cup Final. Abbotsford will be facing off against the Charlotte Checkers, who are the AHL farm team of the Florida Panthers. Based on the rosters and each team's performance so far in the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs, this year's final is projected to be tight and has the potential to go seven games.
The competition has even translated to off the ice, as the mayors of each city have agreed to a friendly challenge. According to Ben Lypka of "The Abbotsford News", the mayor of the losing city must not only wear the winning city's jersey but also post a photo on social media. This means that if Abbotsford wins, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles will need to post a picture wearing a Canucks jersey, while if the Checkers win, Abbotsford Mayor Ross Siemens must do post a photo wearing a Charlotte jersey.
This year's Calder Cup Final kicks off on Friday and Sunday, with the Checkers hosting the first two games. The Canucks will then host Games 3, 4 and 5, which are scheduled for June 17, 19 and 21. If Games 6 and 7 are required, the two teams will fly back to Charlotte and play Games 6 and 7 on June 23 and 25.
