Vancouver’s January 11 matchup against the Leafs proved to be one of their most complete performances of the 2024–25 season. This came the day after the team was shut out 2–0 by the Carolina Hurricanes in a disappointing 14-shot effort. In the second of this back-to-back on January 11, goals came from Brock Boeser, Quinn Hughes, and Tyler Myers.
Notably, this game showed a tremendous defensive effort from Elias Pettersson, after which many of his teammates were reported to have yelled “Selke” at the forward regarding his play. Pettersson had the fifth-highest ice time of all Canucks forwards with 16:08 and tallied an assist and five blocked shots.
The Canucks’ dominant win would not have had the same magnitude had it not been for the remarkable play of Kevin Lankinen. This victory marked his fourth shutout of the season, and the first in franchise history registered in Toronto. Lankinen stopped all 20 shots faced, including the two that the Maple Leafs put up during their power plays.
Canucks 2024–25 Memorable Matches will be posted every Tuesday until June 11.
