The Abbotsford Canucks have been impressive so far in the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs. They have made it to the Pacific Division Final for the first time in franchise history, and lead the entire AHL with 27 goals scored. While Abbotsford has looked unbeatable on most nights, an interesting trend has emerged, as the Canucks only seem to struggle during Game 2s.

Abbotsford Canucks Fall 5-3 In Physical Game 2 Versus The Colorado Eagles
Why Canucks Fans Should Focus On Cap Percentage Rather Than AAV When Discussing Elias Pettersson
Through nine Calder Cup Playoffs games, Abbotsford has a record of 6-3. The six wins have come in Games 1, 3, and 4, while the three losses have all come in Game 2s. While it hasn't cost the Canucks yet, the trend is a little bizarre, considering how Abbotsford plays in other games.

One stat that pops up when comparing Game 2s to Games 1, 3, and 4 is goals against. So far, the Canucks have allowed 19 goals during the post-season, with 14 of those coming in Game 2s. This stat also means that Abbotsford has been a powerhouse defensively during the playoffs, as in their six wins, they have only allowed five goals against.
Artūrs Šilovs' play in Game 2s also remains a mystery. He has stopped 49 of 59 (83% save percentage) shots during Game 2s, while in all other games, he has 147 saves on 152 shots (96.7% save percentage). As mentioned, these performances haven't hurt the Canucks in the long run, but they are troublesome, especially if Abbotsford is going to keep advancing in the post-season.
With their series against the Colorado Eagles now shifting to Loveland, it will be interesting to see if the Canucks can keep up their trend of winning Games 3 and 4. If they can, it will mean another series win, and a ticket to the AHL's West Final. Game 3 of the 2025 Pacific Division Final is scheduled for Wednesday, with a 6:05 pm PT puck drop.
