On the second last day of the 2025 IIHF World Championship preliminary round, only one member of the Vancouver Canucks played for their team. While there are still two more games on the day (Canada vs. Finland and Hungary vs. Norway), the Canucks are done for the 19th. Tomorrow, May 20, all four players are back in action and will look to secure their spots atop their respective Groups.

As it stands, Sweden still sits atop Group A with 18 points in the tournament, while USA has tied Czechia for placement atop Group B after their win today.

    Czechia 5, Germany 0

Today, Czechia registered their first shutout of the tournament, taking a 5–0 win against Germany to bring their point total up to 17 in six games played. This puts them at the top of Group B for the time being. Filip Hronek had an assist on the 5–0 goal and put three shots on net. He was undeniably the team’s leader in TOI, as he played 21:50 minutes. The next highest total was David Pastrnak with 18:23. Tomorrow, they’ll have the chance to secure the leading spot in Group B in a match against Team USA. They’ll likely need to win in regulation to do so, as Switzerland, who is only a point below them, will face the seventh-placed Kazakhstan.

    May 20 Schedule:

    • Czechia vs. USA: 7:20 am PT
    • Sweden vs. Canada: 11:20 am PT
