Five Vancouver Canucks prospects played their first games of the 2024-25 CHL season.
This past weekend, five of six Vancouver Canucks prospects made their season debuts across the CHL. The only prospect who didn't play this weekend was winger Vilmer Alriksson, who was assigned to the Guelph Storm on Sunday after signing his ELC. Here is a look at the five prospects who did play and how their first few games of the season went.
WHL
Starting in the WHL, both defensemen Parker Alcos and Sawyer Mynio recorded assists in their season debuts. Alcos had a shot on goal and finished with a plus/minus rating of +1 in a 4-1 Edmonton Oil Kings win over the Calgary Hitmen, while Mynio had two shots on goal and a +1 rating for the Seattle Thunderbirds in a 5-4 overtime victory over the Wenatchee Wild. Both players are back in action on Friday, with each playing in two games this weekend.

OHL
Over in the OHL, one prospect's start was successful, while the other's was less than ideal. Starting with winger Anthony Romani, he recorded a goal and two assists over his first two games of the season, helping the North Bay Battalion to a 2-0 start. As for center Riley Patterson, he was unable to pick up a point in his first two games and received a match penalty for slew-footing on Saturday. All three prospects will be in action this weekend, with Alriksson expected to make his season debut for the Guelph Storm of Friday.
QMJHL
Lastly, Basile Sansonnens made his QMJHL debut this past weekend for the Rimouski Océanic. In two games, the Canucks 2024 seventh-rounder defender did not put up any points but was able to record three shots on goal. Memorial Cup-bound as Rimouski is this year's host, Sansonnens should play a key role for the team this season.
