Chris Johnston has reported that the Vancouver Canucks are exploring the idea of trading Elias Lindholm to the Boston Bruins to create space for a Jake Guentzel trade.
The Canucks have been reported as one of the finalists to land Guentzel from the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins have reportedly been asking for prospects rather than picks.
With the Penguins reportedly wanting to move Guentzel by tomorrow evening, time is ticking on the Canucks to make a move. Vasily Podkolzin could be an option for the Canucks, especially with his recent call-up. That call-up could be seen as a showcase for teams to see him play.
As for how the Bruins could get involved, players like Fabian Lysell or John Beecher could be involved in the deal. Lysell played for the Vancouver Giants during the 2021-22 season before joining the AHL Affiliate of the Bruins. He was a first-round pick in the 2021 draft.
Many moving pieces would need to happen to make this deal happen, but President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford knows what it takes to create a big-time trade.
Since Lindholm was acquired from the Calgary Flames, he has six points in 14 games with the Canucks. He has struggled to fit the mold of Rick Tocchet's style.
If the Canucks pull this off, it could be a move that helps pull them out of their struggle.
