Elias Pettersson and Team Sweden kick off the 4 Nations Face-Off on Wednesday.
Anticipation for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off continues to build as all four teams skated for the first time on Monday. The practices provided a look at potential line combinations for the tournament, which included who Vancouver Canucks center Elias Pettersson would be playing with. Based on the lines, Pettersson will line up as Sweden's first-line center and be playing beside Nashville Predators' Filip Forsberg and L.A. Kings' Adrian Kempe.
Latest From THN's Vancouver Canucks Site:
Pettersson has played with both Forsberg and Kempe before. Starting with Forsberg, the two hit the ice together with Team Sweden at the 2018 World Championship. That year, Sweden took home the Gold, with Forsberg scoring the shootout Golden Goal against Switzerland.
As for Kempe, this will be the second time he and Pettersson play on the same team. They both played for Sweden at the 2018 World Championship, as well as in 2019. Pettersson and Kempe are also very familiar with each other as they have played in the same division throughout their NHL careers.
Pettersson is also expected to play a key role on Sweden's power play. During short tournaments, special teams play a crucial factor and could be the difference between making the final and going home empty-handed. The Canucks center is projected to play on Sweden's first unit alongside Forsberg, Jesper Bratt, Victor Hedman and William Nylander.
The 4 Nations Face-Off starts Wednesday, February 12, when Canada takes on Sweden. The game will feature two members of Vancouver's team as Pettersson will take on Tocchet, who is an assistant coach for Team Canada. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 pm PT and can viewed on Sportsnet.
