The Vancouver Canucks 2024 Training Camp kicked off with a press conference featuring Jim Rutherford, Patrik Allvin and Rick Tocchet. To start the press conference, Allvin provided an update on the team's injury situation, which features multiple players missing either part or the entirety of Training Camp. The Canucks GM also stated that Thatcher Demko would be making a statement on Thursday, providing more information about his recovery from injury.

Starting with Teddy Blueger, the center is approximately a week away as he recovers from lower body surgery. Blueger was absent from Latvia's Winter Olympics qualifying roster back in August with what the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation stated as "personal reasons." Blueger is expected to play a crucial role for Vancouver this season both as a bottom six center and also on the penalty kill.

Cole McWard is another player that is expected to miss time before the start of the regular season. McWard, who missed last week's Young Stars Classic will be out week to week according to Allvin. The 23-year-old defender is projected to start the season with the Abbotsford Canucks and should feature in their top-four as well as on special teams.

Allvin also touched on Dakota Joshua, stating that he would not be available of the first day of Training Camp. Joshua is recovering after successful offseason surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his testicle. To protect the players privacy, Allvin did not provide an update, rather to review the statement Joshua put out.

The last injury update was surrounding defenceman Tucker Poolman, who last played at the start of the 2022-23 season. Just like last season, Poolman will not play in what is his last year under contract. The 31-year-old has sustained multiple head injuries during his career, which has led to him suffering severe migraines for the past few seasons.
