Canucks Now Accepting Applications For The Eighth-Annual Botchford Project

Applications are now open for the eighth-annual Botchford Project, presented by the Vancouver Canucks and sponsored by The Athletic.

The Botchford Project, first launched back in 2019 as a tribute to Jason Botchford, is a media mentorship program that gives aspiring sports journalists the opportunity to be a credentialed member of the media for a day. This includes attending the Canucks’ morning skate, interviewing a player for a story, and covering the game from the press box. This year’s Botchford Project game is set for January 14 when the Seattle Kraken roll into town.

The experience itself culminates in the form of an article published on Canucks.com. Selected applicants will work with pillars in the Canucks’ media space such as Thomas Drance of The Athletic and Jeff Paterson of The Nation Network to fine-tune their stories and get it ready for publication. Previous articles written by Botchford Project fellows include features on budding young players, deep-dives into connections between two players, and even spotlights on The Botchford Project day as a whole.

Notably, The Botchford Project also announced its expansion back in late August, bringing the mentorship program to Hockey Canada for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship as well. Applications for this particular experience have since closed.

Applications for the eighth-annual Botchford Project close on November 20 at 12:00 pm PCT.
