    Braeden Cootes is headed to Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Vancouver Canucks first-round pick from the 2025 NHL Entry Draft has been named to Canada's 2025 World Junior Summer Showcase roster. Cootes was one of 44 players who will participate in the event for Canada, which begins on July 27, 2025. 

    Cootes has already represented Canada three times on the International stage. Last season, he won Gold at the U18 World Championship as well as the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Cootes also participated in the 2023 U17 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, where he recorded four points in seven games.

    Overall, this year's event will feature two Canucks prospects. Cootes will play for Canada, while Wilson Björck was named to Team Sweden. Depending on the game-day rosters, the Cootes and Björck could face each other on August 1, 2025. 

    Team Canada will play four games at the 2025 World Junior Summer Showcase. They will play an intersquad game on July 29 before facing Finland on July 30, Sweden on August 1 and Team USA on August 2. Games can be viewed on USAHockeyTV.com.
