Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes has been named a finalist for the 2025 James Norris Memorial Trophy. The historic trophy is awarded "to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position." As for the voting, that is down by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association, who submit their ballots at the end of the regular season.

The other two defensemen nominated for this year's Norris Trophy are the Colorado Avalanche's Cale Makar and the Columbus Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski. Makar was a finalist last season when Hughes won his first Norris, while this will be Werenski's first time being a finalist. Makar has also won the award before, taking home the Norris Trophy in 2022.
The 2024-25 season was a historic one for Hughes. He led the team with 76 points, despite only playing 68 games, and finished the campaign tied with Alex Edler for the most points by a defenceman in franchise history. Hughes also became the fourth defenceman in NHL history to record at least 60 assists in four straight seasons, joining Bobby Orr, Ray Bourque and Paul Coffey.
On top of being nominated for the Norris, Hughes is also the Canucks nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy. This award is given out "to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community". All 32 NHL teams submit a finalist for this award.
