ESPN has released what they call their "Way-too-early" NHL Power Rankings for the 2024-25 season, with the Vancouver Canucks finishing in a top-ten spot. The rankings, which are created based on a panel of ESPN hockey commentators, analysts, reporters, and editors, have the Canucks ranked ninth, which is a significant drop from fourth, where Vancouver was ranked back in April. The Canucks are the second-highest Canadian team behind the Edmonton Oilers and are sandwiched between the Nashville Predators at eighth and Toronto Maple Leafs at tenth.

While Vancouver did lose some key pieces this offseason, GM Patrik Allvin and his staff did a great job of filling the holes and creating a deep team for the 2024-25 season. Upfront additions in Jake Debrusk, Danton Heinen, and Kiefer Sherwood should help the team produce more offence. At the same time, Derek Forbort and Vincent Desharnais will make the Canucks defence more challenging to play against. Add these players to a squad that already features high-end talent in Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, J.T. Miller, Brock Boeser and Thatcher Demko; it is clear Vancouver will be near the top of the Pacific Division once again next season.

As for betting odds, the Canucks are currently at 23.00 to win the Stanley Cup, according to BETMGM. This is tied for 12th with the L.A. Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning. As for some other bets, Vancouver is at 11.00 to represent the West in the Stanley Cup, while Hughes is tied for second at 7.00 to win a second straight Norris Trophy.
