Two Vancouver Canucks prospects have become free agents after not being signed by the organization ahead of the August 15 deadline. Defenceman Jacob Truscott and goaltender Matthew Thiessen are now free to sign with any NHL team. The two prospects were all drafted during the Jim Benning regime and played last season in the NCAA.

The most recognizable of the three is Truscott, who spent last season as the captain of the University of Michigan. Drafted 144th overall in 2020, it was reported back in February by Rick Dhaliwal of "Donnie and Dhali" that Truscott would not be signing with the Canucks. Projected to return to the University of Michigan next season, Truscott has played 130 games for the Wolverines and was part of Team USA's World Junior team in 2022.

Vancouver also elected not to sign Thiessen, who has been part of the prospect pool since 2018. Drafted 192nd overall, Thiessen spent the last two seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Over his five-year NCAA career, Thiessen went 12-33-6 with a .896 save percentage.
