After placing him on waivers, the Canucks have traded forward Aatu Räty to the Toronto Maple Leafs for forwards Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr.

After placing him on waivers the day before, the Vancouver Canucks have traded forward Aatu Räty to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In return, Vancouver has acquired forwards Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr.

“We want to thank Aatu for all he has done for the organization, and we wish him well in Toronto,” Canucks General Manager Ryan Johnson said in a press release. “By acquiring Jacob and Brandon this move gives our group two new young players to work with as we continue to look for ways to improve our overall depth.”

Quillan, a 24-year-old from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, joins Vancouver after spending the past two full seasons as part of the Maple Leafs organization. He played in a career-high of 23 NHL games with Toronto during the 2025-26 season, scoring a goal and two assists. He put up 36 points in 40 games with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL and posted nine points in 19 games en route to the Marlies' 2026 Calder Cup win.

As well as winning an AHL championship, Quillan has also won at the NCAA level. He played for Quinnipiac University from 2021-22 to 2023-24, posting a career total of 38 goals and 55 assists in 116 games in the NCAA. He was named the NCAA championship tournament MVP in Quinnipiac's championship win in 2022-23.
