Brett McLean is back behind the bench in the NHL.
Former Vancouver Canucks Assistant Coach Brett McLean has landed a new job in the NHL. The 48-year-old has been named an assistant coach for the Colorado Avalanche. McLean takes over from Dave Hakstol, who left the Avalanche to become the head coach of Arizona State University.
McLean spent one season with Vancouver. He was part of Adam Foote's staff and was fired after the 2025-26 campaign. Before joining the Canucks, McLean was part of the Minnesota Wild organization for eight years, which included two seasons as head coach of the Iowa Wild.
This will be McLean's second stint with Colorado. During his playing career, the BC-born forward suited up 160 times for the Avalanche from 2005-07. McLean played 385 regular-season games in the NHL, where he scored 56 goals while recording 162 points.
