Vancouver Canucks top prospect Jonathan Lekkerimäki has been assigned to the Abbotsford Canucks in the AHL.
Lekkerimäki could potentially play games in the AHL, but the team wanted to get him there to help continue his development on a team level.
The young forward finished a tremendous season with Orebo HK in the SHL. In 46 games, he had 19 goals and 12 assists.
Lekkerimäki hopes to play for Sweden at the upcoming World Championship. He played for his home country at the 2024 World Juniors and had seven goals and three assists in seven games. He earned a silver medal.
"It would be awesome, it's always been a dream to play for the national team," Lekkerimäki said. "It is a challenge. Everyone is better, [they are] at higher speed and [have] bigger guys. So, it would be challenging, of course, but we will have to see what happens."
