Canucks prospect Jonathan Lekkerimäki has undergone successful shoulder surgery and is expected to be ready for training camp in September.

Vancouver Canucks prospect Jonathan Lekkerimäki has successfully undergone shoulder surgery and is expected to be back in time for the team’s training camp later in September. The forward was ruled out for the rest of the 2025–26 season last week.

This season, injury concerns for Lekkerimäki first began on October 19, in a matinee game against the Washington Capitals that saw three Canucks leave due to injury, the Vancouver forward being one of them. He missed around a month’s worth of play before returning to the ice and spending time in Abbotsford before being called-up again in December.

Lekkerimäki finished his 2025–26 season with goals in both the NHL and AHL, tallying two goals and one assist in 13 games with Vancouver as well as 13 goals and seven assists in 21 games with Abbotsford. He averaged nearly a point per game with Abbotsford in the time he spent there.

With his shoulder surgery now complete, Lekkerimäki is now the second member of the Canucks to officially be ruled out for the remainder of the season, as Thatcher Demko has also been sidelined through the final stretch due to injury. Derek Forbort is also not expected to return to play anytime soon, while Filip Chytil will be out for at least a few weeks as he recovers from a facial fracture.

Vancouver’s next match takes place tomorrow as they face the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm PT.
