The Vancouver Canucks almost made a massive splash at the 2025 trade deadline. In a recent interview with Sekeres and Price, TSN's Darren Dreger revealed that the Canucks came close to acquiring then Ottawa Senators center Josh Norris. In the end, Vancouver was unable to come to terms with Ottawa, with Norris being traded to the Buffalo Sabres instead.
During the interview, Dreger also revealed what the trade package would look like. In exchange for Norris, the Canucks would have sent recently acquired center Filip Chytil as well as a draft pick to the Senators. As mentioned, Ottawa ended up trading Norris, as well as Jacob Bernard-Docker, to the Sabres for a 2nd-round draft pick in 2026, Dylan Cozens, and Dennis Gilbert.
Vancouver was in hot pursuit of Norris as they needed a second-line center to fill out their roster. The 26-year-old had 35 points in 56 games this season, but did suffer a season-ending injury in March. During his 239-game career, Norris has scored 91 goals while recording 158 points.

Norris already has a connection to the Canucks as he played with Quinn Hughes at the University of Michigan. They also played together on the US National Development Team and won Silver Medals at the 2019 World Juniors. Over the years, Hughes and Norris have developed a strong friendship and live close by during the off-season.
With Vancouver still needing a second-line center, there is a chance that they will pursue Norris this off-season. As he is not a free agent, the Canucks would need to work out a trade with the Sabres in order to acquire him. Norris has five years left on his current contract and carries an AAV of $7.95 million.
