Seconds before puck drop, it was revealed that Wayne Gretzky would be behind the bench of Team Hughes. He joined Rick Tocchet and Michael Bublé, who were selected to coach Team Hughes. In total, six Vancouver Canucks were part of Team Hughes, including Quinn Hughes, who was named team captain.
This is the second All-Star Game that Tocchet and Gretzky have been behind the bench together. In 2020, when Tocchet was the coach of the Arizona Coyotes, he coached Team Pacific to a championship alongside Gretzky, the team's honorary captain for the event. That Pacific Division roster that year included Hughes and Elias Pettersson, as well as Jacob Markstrom, who was a member of the Canucks at that time.
