On Wednesday, the Vancouver Canucks opened up voting for the 2024-25 team awards. Of the seven year-end awards handed out, fans get a say on four of them, which includes team MVP. With this in mind, here are The Hockey News' Vancouver Canucks team's prediction on who will win the four fan-voted awards.
Latest From THN’s Vancouver Canucks Site:
*Voting Instructions: Voting closes on April 8 at 11:59 p.m. PT. The voting page can be found here.
Izzy Cheung: Quinn Hughes
Adam Kierszenblat: Quinn Hughes
Picking Quinn Hughes to win this year's Cyclone Taylor Trophy seems like a no-brainer. Yes, players like Kevin Lankinen and Conor Garland have stepped up, but Hughes has taken his game to another level. If not for an injury, Hughes could very well have been a finalist for the 2025 Hart Trophy.
Izzy Cheung: Quinn Hughes
Adam Kierszenblat: Quinn Hughes
For the sixth straight season, the Walter (Babe) Pratt Trophy will go to Hughes. Vancouver's captain has 70 points in 61 games and still has a chance at passing Alex Edler to become the franchise's all-time points leader by a defenceman. Despite missing significant time with injuries, Hughes should also be a finalist for the Norris Trophy at the end of the season.
Izzy Cheung: Quinn Hughes
Adam Kierszenblat: Quinn Hughes
Hughes is very likely to add a third team award this year, picking up the Pavel Bure Award. Not only would this be Hughes' first Pavel Bure Award, but he would be the first defensemen in franchise history to take home the title. Overall, Hughes has become a human highlight reel with the way he can dance around with the puck and break his opponent's ankles on a nightly basis.
Izzy Cheung: Pius Suter
Adam Kierszenblat: Tyler Myers
The Fred J. Hume Award is where the debates really start to happen. While Izzy selected Pius Suter for this year's unsung hero, Adam chose Tyler Myers to take home the award. Both are solid choices that should be near the top of fan voting this season.
Starting with Suter, he is having a campaign to remember. In 74 games, he has 22 goals and 42 points, which are both career highs. Suter has also shown he can play up the lineup, and in recent weeks, he has been elevated to first-line center with both Filip Chytil and Elias Pettersson out of the lineup.
As for Myers, he is having a strong statistical season with six goals and 24 points in 71 games. The 6-8 defenceman sits second on the team in total minutes played at 1476:13 and, like Suter, is one of eight players with a positive plus/minus rating this season. Overall, Myers has stepped up on the blue line this year and is one of the reasons why the Canucks have the third best penalty kill in the league.
Vancouver continues their three-game home stand on Saturday when they face the Anaheim Ducks. The Canucks have played the Ducks three times this season, and have emerged with a record of 2-1. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:00 pm PT from Rogers Arena.
