Welcome to The Weekly Rewind, a column published every Monday that recaps the past week of Vancouver Canucks hockey, including the team’s record, players with the highest stats, and more. This week, we’ll be looking at what the Canucks got up to from March 17 to 23, 2025.
Latest From THN’s Vancouver Canucks Site:
Vancouver started the week by soaring to a 6–2 win over the Winnipeg Jets. Thick in the middle of a competitive playoff race, the Canucks delivered in virtually every front, making this one of their most impressive wins of the season over one of the NHL’s top teams. One of the biggest things to note about this performance was the waves of offensive production through all four lines. 11 different players tallied at least one point in this effort, while Brock Boeser and Pius Suter each grabbed two goals.
Thursday’s game was the team’s first of their six-game road trip heading to the east coast. With both them and their opponent for the night, the St. Louis Blues, vying for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference, the stakes were high in this game. Despite every Blues goal scored, Vancouver somehow managed to find a way to tie it up, the most impressive of which came from Boeser with less than three seconds left in the game. St. Louis ultimately took the game in a 4–3 heartbreaker that allowed them to take the spot that Vancouver once occupied.
On Saturday, the Canucks faced off against former allies in J.T. Miller and Carson Soucy, who were both traded to the New York Rangers on separate occasions. Even with the 10:00 am PT start time, Vancouver looked as ready to play as possible, putting together a collective effort to get 39 total shots on Igor Shesterkin. Boeser scored yet another late goal in order to tie the game, but New York continuously scored when they needed to in order to take the two points in a 5–3 victory.
The biggest blow from this week may be the result of Saturday’s game for multiple reasons. First, their loss came on a day when all their competition for the final wild card spot won their games. Second, the empty net goal to put away the game came from none other than Miller. Third, forwards Elias Pettersson and Nils Höglander both left the game ahead of the third period due to undisclosed injury reasons. All in all, the fact that this is the game that could cause the Canucks to miss the postseason is an ironic result in a season filled with irony.
