Most of the Stars’ moves came before free agency in the form of re-signings. Dallas players who signed new contract extensions include Matt Duchene (four years), Mavrik Bourque (one year), and Jamie Benn (one year). They added former longtime Stars center Radek Faksa (three years) and re-upped Colin Blackwell (two years) in free agency and parted ways with Evgenii Dadonov, Mikael Granlund, and Cody Ceci. Faksa will return and likely take Granlund’s place down the middle, though other than this, Dallas’ lineup remains relatively similar to how it was at the end of their 2024–25 season.
The Stars head into the 2025–26 season as potential Stanley Cup favourites, which isn’t surprising given that they’re coming off back-to-back Western Conference Final appearances in which some of their star players were injured or couldnt perform to the best of their ability. If Dallas has a healthy season and relatively-healthy playoff run, they could make a good push for the Stanley Cup. A good chunk of their postseason fate rests on the shoulders of Oettinger, who is projected to be one of three goaltenders who will represent Team USA at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Olympics.
While not impossible, it’s unlikely that Dallas and Vancouver will be pushing for the same playoff spots, as it would take a pretty big shift in the Central Division for the Stars to become a wild card team. The Stars are the fourth team Vancouver will face in 2025–26, as the Canucks start a four-game road trip with a match against the Stars on October 16. Later on in the season, Dallas will visit Vancouver on November 20 and March 2.
