Team USA played at 3:00 am PT today, but with how they fared against Germany, you’d have thought it was an evening game. Both Conor Garland and Drew O’Connor got on the scoresheet tonight, with the latter getting his first goal of the tournament. He had two shots on goal and played 16:39 minutes. Garland was phenomenal today, scoring his second goal of the tournament and nabbing three assists as well in an effort that earned him the title of “Player of the Game.” He also had three shots on goal and played 18:31 of the game. With the win, USA leapfrogs over Germany to sit in third place in Group B.

Marcus Pettersson and Team Sweden continued their dominance over this year’s tournament with a 4–0 win over France. The Canucks defender registered one shot on goal and 17:01 minutes played. The team registered their fourth shutout of the tournament and now has a Group A-leading 18 points in six games played. With that being said, they don’t play until the last day of the preliminary round, taking on Canada on May 20 at 11:20 am PT.

There are four days left of the 2025 IIHF World Championship preliminary round, and two teams with <a href="https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/vancouver-canucks">Vancouver Canucks</a> players on them currently sit at the top of their respective groups. Yesterday, Filip Hronek and Czechia regained their spot at the top of Group B with a commanding 6–1 win against Hungary. Today, another Canuck and his team took home a win. Filip Hronek and Czechia had a time against Kazakhstan, scoring five goals in a row and ending the game with an 8–1 victory. While Hronek didn’t register any points today, he had three shots on net and led his team in ice time with 20:51. He was the only skater on Czechia or Kazakhstan to play more than 20 minutes today. This win boosts Czechia’s point total to 14 in five games played, giving them only one more point than Switzerland, who is in second place in Group B.
