    Day one of the 2025 IIHF World Championship saw all four Vancouver Canucks players in action. The four players, who are split between three teams, all picked up victories, with three recording points during their games. Here is a recap of the Canucks-related action from May 9.

    Czechia 5, Switzerland 4 (OT)

    Filip Hronek was a difference maker for Czechia in their 5-4 overtime victory over Switzerland. He led his team with 21:15 of ice time and recorded the secondary assist on the game-tying goal with under a minute left. Hronek also played 1:08 in overtime and was on the ice for Roman Cervenka's game-winning goal. 

    Sweden 5, Slovakia 0

    Marcus Pettersson had a successful start to his tournament, recording two assists in Sweden's 5-0 victory over Slovakia. He logged 18:46 of ice time and was partnered with Calgary Flames defenceman Rasmus Andersson for the majority of the night. Pettersson also finished tied for the team lead in plus/minus, finishing as a +3 on the night. 

    USA 5, Denmark 0

    Conor Garland, Drew O'Connor and Team USA kicked off their tournament with a 5-0 victory over Denmark. Garland finished the game with an assist and four shots in 15:42 while O'Connor recorded two shots in 16:07 of ice time. The two Vancouver forwards spent the game on the same line alongside Chicago Blackhawks center Frank Nazar.
