Saginaw will be hosting the 2024 Memorial Cup and get an automatic spot in the tournament.
The Vancouver Canucks announced on Friday that they have assigned Josh Bloom to the OHL's Saginaw Spirit. The 20-year-old had made the jump to pro this season, seeing games at both the AHL and ECHL level. Listed at 6'2 "and 183 pounds, the winger was acquired by Vancouver from the Buffalo Sabres for defenceman Riley Stillman before last year's trade deadline.
After being traded to the North Bay Battalion last season, Bloom returns to Saginaw where he spent the majority of his OHL career. In 189 career OHL games, Bloom has recorded 68 goals and 146 points, along with 12 points in 20 career playoff games. Here is a scouting report from THN's OHL Site Editor, Joely Stockl, on Bloom:
"Bloom was one of the best penalty-killing forwards when he played in the OHL; he seemed to score shorthanded goals more than he did even strength. This just speaks to his complete game, but also his dangerousness on the rush and to beat opponents with his speed and determination. He can play up and down the lineup for the Spirit and has experience playing in all game situations. Bloom's versatility makes him so valuable come playoff time."
