The lotto line was on fire tonight as the Vancouver Canucks (25-11-3) defeated the New Jersey Devils (21-15-2) 6-4 on Saturday Night. The trio of Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser combined for four goals and eight points while also finishing the night with a total plus/minus rating of plus-13. With the victory, Vancouver became the first team in the Pacific Division to hit 25 wins and improved their record to a perfect 22-0 when leading after two periods.
While most of the headlines will be on the lotto line, this was a game where virtually the lineup stepped up one way or another. All but two defencemen had a shot on goal, while ten players recorded points in the win. Even though he didn't score, Andrei Kuzmenko stepped up, leading the team with six shots, while Carson Soucy had a massive return to the lineup with four blocked shots. Without question, this was one of the Canucks best efforts of the season and should be used as a benchmark for the rest of the year.
Here is what head coach Rick Tocchet had to say about the victory:
"I thought the guys played really hard. Obviously, dominated the first half and then they came at us. There were a couple of coverages blown at the end, but you know, we will go to the drawing board with that. For the most part, I liked the effort of the guys."
