Pettersson, Hughes Nominated For NHL 24 Team of the Year

The six winners will receive a boosted player card in EA Sports NHL 24's Ultimate Team mode.

EA Sports has announced their nominees for NHL 24's Team of the Year, with two Vancouver Canucks cracking the list. The annual list highlights the best players from the past year, with the winner receiving an upgraded player card in Ultimate Team and limited-edition hockey equipment that can be used in everyday life. In total, 12 winners will be selected, consisting of three forwards, two defencemen and one goalie from both the Men's and Women's games. While no official announcement date has been revealed, based on last year, expect the team to be announced on Friday. 

Up front, Elias Pettersson was one of the 20 forwards nominated. In 82 games during 2023, the Canucks center posted 101 points which was tied for ninth across the NHL. He also finished top ten in shorthanded goals and game-winning goals in what was his best calendar year in the NHL. 

The other nominee was Quinn Hughes, who was selected alongside 11 other defensemen. During the 2023 calendar year, he led all defensemen with 91 points and was tied for the league lead with a plus/minus of plus-40. As for his 75 assists, that was good enough for fourth across the entire league, with only Connor McDavid, Nathan McKinnon and Nikita Kucherov recording more. Based on his numbers and impact on Vancouver, Hughes is the more likely of the two to be named to the final list.
