Kunz was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks 113th overall in 2020

Initially drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 draft by Vancouver, Kunz, who is listed as a center, has played the last three years at the University of North Dakota, with the 2024-25 season being his senior year. The recently turned 22-year-old Kunz will be one of four players wearing an "A" this season, joining forwards Jake Schmaltz and Cameron Berg as well as defenceman Bennett Zmolek.
Kunz had his best NCAA season in 2023-24, recording 19 points and averaging 10:49 in 37 games. As for the team, the Fighting Hawks finished first in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, posting a record of 15-8-1-1-4. The University of North Dakota also qualified for the National Tournament, but were eliminated in the semi-finals by the University of Michigan.
As for this season, expectations are high for Kunz and the Fighting Hawks. They have a lineup that features over a dozen NHL-drafted players, including New York Rangers first-round defender EJ Emery. Based on the roster, Kunz and his teammates should once again feature in the National Tournament at the end of the year, with the Canucks prospect looking to end his NCAA career with a championship.
