Welcome to this edition of THN's Vancouver Canucks 2024-25 Report Card. This recurring 2025 off-season series features a deep dive into how each Canucks player performed last year. Today's article will focus on winger Conor Garland, who finished the season with 50 points in 81 games.
Garland was one of Vancouver's most consistent players throughout the year. He finished tied for second on the team in points, and hit the 50 point mark for the second time in his Canucks career. The 29-year-old also set a career high in blocks with 58, as well as average ice time at 18:39.
Throughout the season, Garland was used in every on-ice situation. He finished fifth among forwards with 64:32 on the penalty kill, while his 235:39 on the power play ranked third on the entire team. Ultimately, Garland was one of the players Tocchet trusted the most, which is why he surpassed 20 minutes on 27 different occasions.
The 2024-25 season was also an opportunity for Garland to grow as a leader. While he didn't wear a letter, Garland led by example, as he was consistently one of the hardest-working players on a nightly basis. Garland also demonstrated his commitment to the city of Vancouver, as he signed a six-year extension that will keep him with the Canucks until the end of the 2031-32 season.
“We’re Gonna Have A Lot Of Fun”: Canucks’ Conor Garland Speaks On Re-Signing With Vancouver
The Vancouver Canucks got to work on July 1, signing three of their core’s key pieces to new contracts. Conor Garland, acquired by the Canucks in 2021, signed a six-year deal on Tuesday that will keep him in Canucks blue and green until the 2032 season. Prior to this, his current contract would have expired at the end of the 2025–26 season. After his extension was made official, Garland met with the media to discuss why he re-signed.
In addition to having a successful campaign from a statistical perspective, Garland's analytics were very strong. He ranked tied for fifth on the team with a Wins Above Replacement of 1.5, while his five-on-five Expected Goals For Percentage of 53.01 ranked second on the team among players who played at least 25 games. In the end, Garland was able to have a positive impact at both ends of the ice and demonstrated once again how dynamic he can be as a two-way forward.
