Welcome to The Hockey News - Vancouver Canucks site’s player preview series for the 2025–26 season. In these articles, we’ll preview the players who are expected to play for the Canucks in the 2025–26 season. In this edition, we take a look at Aatu Räty, who is projected to make the jump to the NHL full-time next year.
Räty spent last season split between the NHL and the AHL. He recorded 11 points in 33 games with Vancouver, while in 43 games with the Abbotsford Canucks, he scored 17 goals and recorded 40 points. Unfortunately, his campaign ended early as he suffered multiple injuries during the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs.
The biggest takeaway from Räty's 2024-25 season is that he is ready for a full-time role at the NHL level. He performed well as a fourth-line center for the Canucks and proved to be dominant in the faceoff dot, winning 57.7% of his draws. Räty also showed that he has outgrown the AHL, as he once again was one of Abbotsford's top players.
The Hockey News - Canucks site gave Räty a B for his performance during the 2024-25 season. As mentioned, he had a strong season in the AHL and provided Vancouver with valuable depth minutes throughout the season. Overall, a solid effort by Räty during his 22-year-old season.

Based on the Canucks current roster, Räty is projected to play a significant role in the bottom-six next year. If he can be productive night after night, he should get more opportunities and may even end the season on the second power play unit.
