Welcome to The Hockey News - Vancouver Canucks site’s player preview series for the 2025–26 season. In these articles, we’ll preview the players who are expected to play for the Canucks in the 2025–26 season. In this edition, we take a look at winger Jake DeBrusk, who will be looking to set yet another career high in goals next year.
DeBrusk had a successful first season with Vancouver. He set a new career high with 28 goals, while his 48 points were the second highest of his career. DeBrusk also played in all 82 games, which was a first for him in the NHL.
The Hockey News Canucks site gave DeBrusk a B for his performance during the 2024–25 season. He led Vancouver in goals and finished fourth in points. In the end, DeBrusk met expectations during his first year with the organization as he showed that he can be a valuable member of the top six and the power play.
Canucks Jake DeBrusk Discusses Playing With Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes & More In Latest Podcast Appearance
Jake DeBrusk had a successful first season with the Vancouver Canucks. He played 82 games for the first time in his career, while leading the team with 28 goals. DeBrusk also scored 14 times on the power play, which ranked tied for 19th for a single season in franchise history.
Just like last season, DeBrusk is projected to be a top-line winger for Vancouver in 2025-26. The 28-year-old will most likely be on a line with Elias Pettersson while also being a net front presence on the power play. If DeBrusk and the rest of his teammates step up their play next season, as mentioned, he should have no issues setting new career highs.

The big question when it comes to DeBrusk is whether or not he will finally score 30 goals in a season. He came close last season, but in the end, came up two goals short. With plenty of power play time and a rejuvenated Pettersson, scoring at least 30 goals shouldn't be a problem next year for DeBrusk.
Speaking of goal scoring, shots on goal is another area where DeBrusk needs to improve in 2025-26. He registered 171 shots on goal last season, which was his lowest total since the 2020-21 season, when he only played 41 games. If DeBrusk can eclipse the 200-shot mark next year, it will go a long way in helping the Canucks become a stronger offensive unit.
