The Vegas Golden Knights have invited Boston College defenseman Lukas Gustafsson to their development camp according to Mark Divver.
In his sophomore season with the Eagles, Gustafsson produced three goals and added 13 assists for 16 points in 41 games. In his freshman season, he scored three goals once again but finished with 19 points in 35 games.
Before joining Boston College, Gustafsson played two seasons with the Chicago Steel of the USHL. He scored 11 goals and 38 points in 59 games in his final season.
At 5'10, 190 lbs, the 21-year-old isn't the biggest defenseman in the NCAA but blends his skating ability with his IQ to navigate around the ice. He was born in Alpharetta, Georgia but his nationality is both American and Swedish.
The defenseman excels with his edgework which allows him to shift his weight from one foot to another, making it difficult to contain him. When he creates separation, he is a great passer looking for seam passes or back-door tips.
With two years of College eligibility remaining, Gustafsson has a lot of time to continue to improve his game. He'll only receive more minutes and a larger role as his College career continues. If he can perform well at the Golden Knights development camp, he can stay on their radar and possibly receive an entry-level contract in a couple of years.
