Former Vegas Golden Knights forward Reilly Smith is being held out of the New York Rangers lineup today for "management purposes."

The Rangers are set to play the Nashville Predators tonight but will do so without the 33-year-old. In 58 games, Smith has scored 10 goals and 29 points.

Smith was selected by the Golden Knights in the expansion draft and was with the franchise until they traded him to the Pittsburgh Penguins following their Stanley Cup triumph. His first and only season with the Penguins was filled with ups and downs and at one point, was linked back to the Golden Knights.

He was once again dealt in the offseason, moving to the Rangers. Smith has still been an effective forward with the Rangers, but everything has gone wrong for them. They are four points out of the second wild card spot but sit behind three other teams.

The Mimico, ON native is a pending UFA with a plethora of playoff experience and versatility. He can play on the penalty kill, the second power play unit and is an effective even strength scorer.

The trade market and price for Smith is still unknown, but the Rangers could fetch a decent return for a rental at the trade deadline.
