Matyas Sapoavliv ranks fourth in the Vegas Golden Knights system, according to Elite Prospects.

Matyas Sapovaliv is one of the Vegas Golden Knights top prospects, ranking fourth by Elite Prospects.
He’s playing in the Ontario Hockey League where he has 41 points (13 goals, 28 assists) for the Sagniaw Spirit. He also played on the top line for Czechia at the World Juniors, tallying three goals and one assist.
“It was his third World Juniors. It’s his second year being the top center for the Czechs. They beat Canada last year. They beat Canada this year,” Vegas Golden Knights director of player development Wil Nichol said. “He was the top of their team for time on ice. He was No. 1 in total in faceoff percentage. You start with the puck a lot. He’s big. He’s long. He plays all three zones. He’s got really good sense and really good skill sense.”
The Hockey News’s Ontario Hockey League writer Joely Stockl said Sapovaliv has a 200-foot game and has the ability to make the players around him better.
“Sapovaliv will make a smart, reliable middle-six centre in Vegas. He brings his 6-foot-4 size and intelligence in all three zones,” Stockl said. “He's not going to light up the scoreboard or get onto highlight reels, but he does the little things right, and coaches will never be afraid to put him out onto the ice.”
The size and ability to play a 200-foot game might remind Golden Knights fans of Nicolas Roy.
Nichol said he has aspects of Sapovaliv’s game that will remind fans of Roy’s game.
“He’s got parts of 'Nic’s' game in his game,” Nichol said. “He’s his own player and does some things better than ‘Nic’ at this age.”
