Kaylie Phillips/Jades Media - Golden Knights veteran defenseman Alex Pietrangelo withdraws from 4 Nations Faceoff

LAS VEGAS -- Golden Knights veteran defenseman Alex Pietrangelo will not participate in the 4 Nations Faceoff next month, the club announced in a statement on Sunday.

In a post on "X", the team said the 35-year-old veteran "will be withdrawing from the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off to tend to an ailment and prepare for the remainder of the regular season with Vegas."

Pietrangelo, along with six other Golden Knights, was chosen to represent Canada when the 4 Nations Face-Off rosters were finalized in December.

Pietrangelo, who was sidelined for three games earlier this season with an upper-body injury, has 25 points (three goals, 22 assists) while averaging a team-high 22:41 this season.

Pietrangelo, a native of King City, Ontario, earned gold medals at the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. He also represented Canada during the 2011 IIHF World Championship.

Pietrangelo, who was on the ice for warmups before Sunday's game against Florida, is the first player to remove himself from the event, but may not be the only Knight to withdraw.

Forward William Karlsson, who is nursing a lower-body injury and is listed as week-to-week, was selected to represent Sweden. But with the event starting in less than three weeks, there's a good possibility Karlsson won't play.
